Trackdown (1957)
"Man and Money"

Robert Culp, Anna Navarro, Victor Millan

Texas Ranger Hoby Gilman's (Culp) job is to track down wounded bank robber, Stony Buckram, (Vic) who's escaped over the Mexican border and bring him back to the US along with the $50,000 he stole. Knowing that extradition isn't an option, Hoby lucks out as he finds the unconscious Stony in need of rescuing. By the way, Vic does a great job at being unconscious and letting Hoby drag, lift, and carry him around. I'd noticed before that Vic's at home on a horse but hey, I was really impressed how he rides one while unconscious in this show. Anyway, Hoby agrees to save Stony's life in exchange for half the robbery money and takes him to a young couple's cabin for aid. Although soft-spoken, Stony's a self-absorbed creep who complains about the chow and puts the moves on the wife even with her husband in the room. But the clueless cowboy seems to think Hoby's his friend and looks rather hurt when Hoby comes to the woman's rescue. Ya'd think with all the dirty looks Hoby throws his way, Stony could figure out he's hated. The husband, however, figures he's got two banditos on his hands and when he takes matters into his own hands, gets right in the Ranger's way. Vic's quiet, 'wanna be buddies' portrayal of this baddie manages to make him even more despicable than if he'd snarled his way through the role. I liked this show; Vic's onscreen most of the time so put this on your list of Vic shows to watch.
