Johnny Ringo (1959)
"Kid With A Gun"
Don Durant, Lisa Menzie, Karen Sharp
Josie Wilkin's father was just murdered so she does what any grieving little girl would do - she rides in to town to trade all her earthly belongings for a gun. It was bad enough that low-down Bill Stoner (Vic) ran 'em off when they showed up to claim their half of the silver mine from Pa's partner, Sam Stoner, but did he have to ambush Pa, too? Josie's determined to give Bill Stoner what he's got comin'. But instead of a gun, Josie gets the 'help' of Sheriff Johnny Ringo, (Durant) who doesn't quite believe her story because, hey, where's her pa's body? Not knowing what else to do with the orphaned kid, Ringo takes her to kindly Miss Laura's home. When Josie disappears, (gee, was it his singing that drove her away?) Ringo finally gets on the stick and does his job. This is a schmaltzy story with rather wooden acting - even Vic's acting is kinda flat in places and the filter used for the night scenes (check out those 'moon shadows') makes it difficult to see Vic at times. But there are plenty of good Vic moments plus a little twist to the otherwise predictable plot to make it quite worth watching.
