The Millionaire (1956)
"The Joey Diamond Story"

Marvin Miller, Judith Braun, Aaron Spelling (!), John Beresford Tipton (honest, he's in the credits!)

Okay, this tale of teenage love is schmaltzy and oh-so-dramatic but I love it! Since Mr. 'Moneybags' Tipton thinks it will be interesting to see what a million dollars will do for 'one of life's negatives' with 'gutter-type experience', Mr. Anthony shows up at 18-year-old Joey Diamond's door with a bankbook. This is Vic's first tv role and he's on-screen most of the time and lookin' good - at least I think he is. Unfortunately, this is one of my worst tapes, looks like it was filmed underwater during a eruption of volcanic ash, so I couldn't get decent pics. This is one of my favorite Vic episodes, though, and quite fun - Joey's cardboard cutout doctor brother, Cliff, makes me grin and makes Vic's acting abilities stand out even more in comparison. Vic goes from punk kid, to rich punk kid, to loving-but-immature husband, to auto-mechanic, to vengeful punk, to grieving husband, then repentant, wised-up husband all in less than half an hour and he does it with his usual flair. Oh, and since this is teenage love in the fifties, it comes complete with a tragic jalopy drag race. You won't want to miss the touching ending. Pegs, the faithful though rather whiney wife, (oh, Jo-o-o-eeeeey!) spouts a line that makes me giggle every time. Ah, teenage love!
