"Beat The Drum Slowly"

Ray Walston, Dean Jones, Don Collier and Anne Helm

Brothers Joe (Vic) and Danny Cannon (Dean Jones) ride into town unfresh from a long cattle drive with $3500 for their boss, Mr. Packer, which will make them partners in Packer's ranch. They freshen up and decide to spend the evening at the Great Western Star Casino and Opera House to celebrate their rosy future. Feeling lucky, Danny flirts with the casino's chanteuse, Blanche Chante. Feeling lucky, Joe tries the roulette wheel but yep, you guessed it - manages to lose not only his own money but also most of Mr. Packer's wad. After Joe's desperate last bet, the roulette croupier announces that Joe has won $3200! But after would-be robbers break into the casino and overturn the tables, the crooked croupier claims that Joe never won. Joe's appeals for justice are ignored by both the casino owner and the town's marshal. However, Judge Adams (Walston) had witnessed the whole thing and approaches the boys with a plan to get their money back. Although the casino boasts that it's never been robbed and never will be robbed, the judge has a plan for breaching the extensive security and putting the crooked casino out of business. Desperate, the brothers agree to throw in with him but only if no one gets hurt and only to take back the $3500 that belongs to them. With Blanche as the partner working on the inside, the judge's plan seems fool-proof. Will they pull it off? This is an excellent show with some very enjoyable performances. Vic is on-screen most of the time and is at his best. I highly recommend this show.
