Vic plays David Greco, whose life-long ambition is to be a cop, just like his dad. David eats, drinks, and breathes police work, just waiting for the day he can earn his shield. David's a sincere, sweet, soft-spoken kid but unfortunately, although he's got a lot of heart, he's not got a lot of brains. Despite working hard and trying his best, David has flunked the civil service test twice. He's only got one shot left for if he flunks again, it'll forever keep him from his dream of being a cop. While David struggles to study for the last exam, his dad (Klugman), trying to spare his son from failing, enlists Lt. Muldoon (McIntire) to talk David out of becoming a cop. However, David is determined. But being a cop is a dangerous job, especially with a vicious killer on the loose. Will Dad be able to protect his son? Will David succeed and finally earn his shield? This is a must-see episode - Vic shines as the sweet, simple son.
